Katie was in charge of the IRC holiday party, so Gretchen, Emily, and I went over to help her make IRC holiday ornaments.

I already forgot her dog’s name! She was sooo cute. She loves to play fetch, and she returns the ball by dropping the ball in front of her face, then rolling the ball between the thrower’s feet with her nose.

Joe’s Shanghai (Xiaolongbao)

We went to Joe’s Shanghai in chinatown for their famous soup dumplings. We went half an hour before they were closing, so we didn’t have to wait at all- but I hear there’s always a long line otherwise.

This is some noodle dish that the people next to us said that we had to get. It was whatev.

I’ve had soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung in Arcadia and other hole in the walls in Beijing. Din Tai Fung is fancier and always has a wait time. Also pretty pricey for soup dumplings. Joe’s was pretty damn good- especially for their price.

Beacon

There was a one-day pause with the rain, so I took the metro north up to Beacon to visit the Dia museum. It’s about a hour and a half ride from Grand Central Station.

I arrived early, so I went around Main Street first to get breakfast at Homespun Foods.

French toast… she said something was different about it, but I don’t remember what it wasss….

This was one of the best breakfasts evarrrrrrr

Beacon is a teeny tiny town where there is only 1 of everything. I walked down Mainstreet, and started to go through the neighborhood.

I would hate to live next to this guy.

Then I started making my way to Dia. The day was gohhhhhhhhjus.

Dia is super strict about taking photos inside, but it was one of the most beautiful museums I’ve ever visited. Here are some photos from the world wide web:

IRC is located on Lexington and 42nd, so I often took my lunch from Cafe Zaiya or Delmonico to eat on the steps of the Library.

IRC taxi ad

The marketing team went to a small recording studio in Union Square to record the voice over for an IRC taxi ad. It was amazing to see how fast everyone worked to put it together.

After the recording, Gretchen managed to put together another #1 love ballad.

Carroll Gardens + Fette Sau

I walked down Carroll Garden’s row of the cutest little shops before I got together with Gretchen, Katherine, and Emily for my goodbye dinner.

We met up at Fette Sau BBQ in Williamsburg. It had the same exact atmosphere as Wurstkuche in downtown LA. There will never be brisket like this anywhere else.

It was a good goodbye.

Charlie Brown + Peter Luger’s

Daniel came to visit! We went to a small play at the Brooklyn Lyceum by the Pig Brooch Theatre group. They performed the Charlie Brown Christmas verbatim with a live trio playing Vince Guaraldi! It was so cuteeeeee. This is their second annual performance, and I’m sure it’ll go on for a long, long time. $10

We also went to Peter Luger’s steakhouse. It was the best steak EVAR, but we only finished about 1/5 of it, because it was sooo damn heavy. To top it all off, they give chocolate coins at the end of the meal.

The Moth Story Slam

The Moth is a story-telling organization that started in nyc, and is now in major cities, including LA (eeeeeeeeeeee!) Every week, a theme is chosen, “cars” was ours, and stories are told based on that theme. Anyone can tell a story if you put your name in a hat. 10 storytellers are chosen randomly. A preselected team of judges scores the stories on the scale of 1-10. It’s a story slam.

I went with Alex and Samir after a day of interning at the IRC. It was held at a medium-sized bar in LES, and it was awwwwwesome. I’m sure I’m going to attend the slams in LA.
